Overview
This 3 days Nyungwe chimpanzee tour is one of the famous safaris in Rwanda. You will be exposed to the Chimpanzees for an hour and the overall experience will last for 3 to 5 hours while in the jungle. Also take part in the canopy walk where you will be able to have an aerial view of the forest as the Primates keep roaming from one side to another, bird make beautiful calls from the forest and much more. This tour will also offer you a chance to tour around the city of Kigali where you will visit places like the genocide memorial Centre, Kigali markets and may more.
Detailed itinerary
Day1. Arrival and transfer to Nyungwe forest
Arrive at the airport in Kigali and the driver guide will be ready to welcome you and quickly take you through briefing about this great safari. You will transfer to Nyungwe forest national park where you will be for this safari. The beautiful scenery will make you keep your eyes outside the vehicle through the window. Prepare for the next great day on your arrival and this will be the end of the day.
Day2. Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk
Visit the Chimpanzees in the wild through taking part in this great chimpanzee trekking experience. You will begin the day with breakfast and then transfer to the park offices for briefing exercise. This will be a good time to learn more about the Chimpanzees and other wildlife that live in this great national park. Trekking will begin with a park Ranger guide well-armed. You will spend an hour while following the chimpanzees and this will be of great memorable experience since you will watch the chimps playing, feeding, grooming young ones and much more.
In the afternoon hours after lunch, you all head back to the park offices for another experience where you all be in a bridge suspended on the top of the trees giving an aerial view of the forest. The canopy walk in Nyungwe is the oldest in East Africa but very rewarding since you can be in position to walk for a 160m distance at a height of 70m. Primates will be spotted such as L’Hoest’s monkeys, colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys and many more others. And birds like Regal-Sunbird, Kivu-ground Thrush, Congo-bay Owlet, Rwenzori-Night jar, Red-faced woodland Warbler, Rwenzori-Turaco, Red-collared mountain-Babbler will also be spotted.
Day3. Head back to Kigali and city tour
Head back to Kigali City in the morning and take part in the city tour. You will visit places like the former presidential Palace museum and learn about the politics of Rwanda. You will also visit the Rwanda genocide memorial grounds, the local markets and many more. Be dropped at the airport and this will be the end of the tour.
