Overview
Birding safaris to Uganda are remaining as special safari you don't need to miss out. Therefore this 8 days birding in Uganda will take you to different destinations for different sightings where our guide will pick you from the airport at your time of arrival and a quick briefing about the safari will also be given to you. Stop overs mostly at the equator will be observed for taking photos and having picnic lunch before proceeding to destination. For example, you will have a stopover at the first equator in Kayabwe along Kampala Masaka road and another one will be at in Kasese district in queen Elizabeth national Park. In other words, your driver guide will be telling you more about the safari day by day.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1. Pick up from the airport
Meet our humbly and well-behaved driver guide as soon as you arrive at the airport who will take you through a quick briefing about the safari and move to the nearest hotel for a simple lunch. If there is time, make a simple city tour around and check in with the lodge for your accommodation especially dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2. Mpanga forest and transfer to lake Mburo
Mpanga forest is one of the best places birders can't miss out while on their birding safari to Uganda. Here you will wake up early and have breakfast and move to meet the guide at the cleared edges of the forest who will take you through the walk. Spot and record a good number of birds like the crowned hornbill, klass's cuck, lead coloured fly catcher and many more. Retreat to the lodge for lunch and departure. Have a stopover at the equator in Kayabwe for stretching and photo taking. Proceed with the journey to lake Mburo and check in with the lodge for dinner and night stay.
Day 3. Full day birding in lake Mburo
You will start your birding safari today after an early served Breakfast, and stop overs will be more valuable to watch out the bird type. Keep your fingers crossed such that you can record a good number of birds for example; the breasted roller, woolly necked stock, ruffaous billed stock and many more. Since it will be a drive take a chance to spot other wild animals like Elands, impalas, zebras and so on. Drive back to the lodge for lunch and the afternoon session you will be birding on foot along the park trails with the park ranger who will be fully armed for protection. There after retreat to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4. Ruhija sector evening birding
Ruhija sector is one of the sectors in Bwindi impenetrable national Park which is best for birders. Birding is well done early in morning and late in the evening therefore, you will depart at the lodge after your breakfast and drive towards south west parts of Bwindi impenetrable national Park in Ruhija sector. Check in at the lodge and wait as the chef prepares your lunch and after enjoying it take time and also stretch the body for the evening game drive. What is interesting in this game drive, you will view alot of predators including the wild animals and after drive back to the lodge for dinner and night stay.
Day 5. Nature walk and evening game drive
After an early breakfast, move for the nature walk which is basically done in the forest where you will learn more about different tree species, and a number of birds about 400 bird species are recorded in Bwindi impenetrable national Park since Ruhija is one of its sectors. You can continue with the trail to Mubwindi swamp which hosts a lot of birds too and listen to the bird’s melodies while there and record some of your interest. Move back to the lodge for lunch and descend to the field for game drive which will be your last activity and move back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6. Transfer to Semuliki NP
Arise from your bed and have breakfast, then after drive heading to Semuliki national Park which is found in the western parts of Uganda and this will take you about 6-7 hours’ drive depending on your interests that you meet on the way. You will have a stopover at the equator which is located in Kasese district, south western parts of Uganda in queen Elizabeth national Park. Enjoy your time on the equator while taking photos for remembrace and have your packed lunch before proceeding with your journey to Semuliki national park
Day 7. Morning birding and Sempaya hot springs
Semuliki national Park is the best place to go for birding since it hosts over 435 bird species, therefore, you will wake up early in the morning and have your well-prepared Breakfast, drive and meet a ranger bird guide who will take you through a briefing and set off for the field. Birding in this protected area is carried out in the forest and many birds are recorded like black wattled hornbill, black winged starling, Maxwell's black weaver and others. Have your picnic lunch at the lodge and after drive to the offices where you will meet and head to the Sempaya hot springs for a great experience. During this experience you will visit the female and the male hot spring and also you have chances of spotting water birds like king fishers, herons and many more.
Day 8. Departure
This day will be the end of your birding safari in Uganda where you will enjoy your breakfast at any hotel in fort portal the tourism city. Feel great while in Fort portal with the sea breeze since it's blessed with over 52 crater lakes. You can opt making a city tour and visit a super craft shop to buy souvenirs for memories while back home. There after you drive back to Kampala with a stopover in Mubende to have a look at the local markets and proceed with the journey and be dropped at the airport.
